Old publications

Since its establishment, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters has engaged in publishing activities. Right after establishment, the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters started publishing the series of publications, known collectively as Annales Academiae Scientiarum Fennicae. It was divided into dedicated series A for mathematics and science and series B for arts and humanities. In 1940, the A series was divided further into subseries (Mathematica, Physica, Chemica, and Geologica). Of these subseries, only Mathematica still exists in the 21st century. The humanistic B series has been published under the title Humaniora. The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters also published the Folklore Fellows’ Communications series since it was established. Between 2008 and 2013, the Academy published a series titled Kannanottoja.

In 2020, the Board of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters decided to completely reorganize the publishing activities. The Finnish Mathematical Society assumed the responsibility of publishing AASF Mathematica from the beginning of 2021 and Folklore Fellows Communications is published by the Kalevala Society. Publication of the Humaniora series were ceased. The Board decided to relaunch the general publication series Annales Academiae Scientiarum Fennicae.
