Leading experts in technology and artificial intelligence, along with university heads, sponsors, and representatives from science academies, gathered in Kyoto, Japan for a major global conference this October. The Science and Technology in Society (STS) forum explores important topics in science and technology including their accomplishments, potential risks, impacts, and ethical considerations.
The chair of the board of the Finnish Academy of Science and Letters Tuula Linna was invited along to the conference and the meeting of presidents of science academies. She was also asked to hold a presentation in one of the conference’s sub-working groups titled “ AI and legal industry “. The secretary general of the Academy Pekka Aula participated in the conference as well.
The fact that the Emperor of Japan Naruhito held a speech at the opening of the conference speaks volumes to the importance of the event.
In total the conference, which has been organised since 2004, gathered over 1 500 participants from approximately 80 countries.
