Suomalainen Tiedeakatemia | Finnish Academy of Science and Letters | Academia Scientiarum Fennica

The Finnish Academy of Science and Letters is tasked with promoting scientific research and to unite scholars representing high-quality science to increase scientific interaction. In addition, the Academy promotes evidence-based social decision-making. The Academy fulfils its task, among other things, by issuing statements. Most of the Academy’s statements are available on the Finnish website.

Mastering Demographic Change in Europe

– How can European politics adapt to low birth rate and increased life expectancy?

The shared statement from eight European science academies estimates that the low birth rate, aging population and increasing immigration present substantial challenges to political decision-making. Governments must adapt to population changes in a situation shadowed by climate change and scarcity of certain natural resources.
